Church Weekend Away
Friday 1st to Sunday 3rd October 2010
Hotel Mercure, Leysin

One hundred and thirty people squeezed into the Haut Lac International
Centre at Les Sciernes last September for the Church Weekend Away. It was
the best attended church weekend in re-cent times and it was the most number
of people the Centre had ever catered for. In fact it would have been
impossible to fit any more people in! They were at
capacity. Throughout the Autumn the Chaplaincy Council have been dis-cussing
potential solutions to the challenge of numbers. In talking to the staff at
Les Sciernes, it was clear that there was no way of sleeping and feeding any
more than 130 people at the Haut Lac Centre.

This led us to look further afield and it soon became clear that in order to
accommodate a number larger than 130, within a reasonable distance of Vevey
and within a manageable budget, we were looking at using a ho-tel. And after
considerable work we have found the Mercure Classic Hotel in Leysin.

What does this change mean for us and for the Church Weekend? Firstly and it
sounds like stating the obvious but it means that we'll be staying in a
hotel and not a residential centre. This means en suite bathrooms,
restaurants, no washing up and the use of the hotel facilities. The Mercure
also offers us a wide variety of conference facilities that are able to
easily accommodate the various programme streams as well as plenty of space
for quiet time.

Church Sale (or event formally known as
Saturday 29th May 10h00 - 16h00 All Saints Church

Building on the Church Sale, a new event is being launched on Saturday 29th
May which aims to promote the life of All Saints as widely as possible among
the English speaking community as well as the local Swiss Community.
Alongside favourites such Books, Lunches, Toys, Cakes and Jams there will be
live music, a bouncy Castle, face painting, Dunk the Vicar, a BBQ as well as
some new stalls including plants. As the main purpose of this event is to
promote the life of All Saints I would encourage us all to put this date in
our diaries, plan to invite friends and family and make a point of coming
along! As a Church Family let's take this great opportunity to make this
event and wonderful success and make our community more widely known!!
Finally, there will be lots of opportunities to get involved - more
information to come soon.
