Help I'm not an Anglican!
Unfamiliar with Anglican Worship?
Anglicans express themselves in many ways throughout the world. All Saints comes from the Evangelical tradition of the Anglican Church and this is reflected in its worship style. When you come to All Saints you will find our worship style to be informal, contemporary, respectful of tradition, liturgical and focused on Biblical teaching.
We are intentionally informal because we want our services of worship to be accessible to someone who has had no experience of coming to Church. When it comes to music our services seek to draw from the best of the old and the new. Our services begin with an extended time or worship led by our Worship Team. This is contemporary in style but is often followed by older hymns and songs that have been sung by Christians down through Christian history.
Our services are also liturgical, that is they have a purpose driven structure and content to them. So at each service we join together in a time of confession, we read the bible together, and stand and confidently proclaim the fundamentals of our faith in the ancient Creeds. There will also always be a time of intercessory prayer. There are pros and cons of liturgical services. Liturgy brings structure, content and direction to a service. But it can also lead to familiarity and the danger of "simply going through the hoops". It's therefore essential when we come to worship to resist passivity and actively engage with our spirits, minds and bodies.
Commonly asked Questions
In the Nicean Creed why do you say that you "believe in the holy catholic Church."
Often people confuse the term "catholic" with the Roman Catholic Church. In the Creed, the word "catholic" means universal or worldwide. And so when we say that we "believe in the holy catholic church" we are simply proclaiming our commitment to the Body of Christ throughout the world.
Can I take Holy Communion at All Saints?
All Saints welcomes anyone who is a baptised member of their local Church to take Communion.
