The 7.4 magnitude earthquake on 28 September 2018 triggered a devastating tsunami up to six metres high. Over 2,000 people have died, with hundreds still missing. More than 67,000 houses have been damaged or destroyed by the earthquake, tsunami and resulting landslides. 82,000 have been displaced. Two months on, many people are still living in heavily damaged houses that are at risk of collapsing. Some affected communities have moved to makeshift camps up in the hills. They are living under crude, leaky tents without any sort of waterproofing.

Medair responded immediately deploying teams to distribute emergency hygiene and shelter kits to vulnerable communities in the most affected and hardest-to-reach areas. They are still there. Your gift this Christmas can go even further thanks to our matched funding opportunity. Donations will be doubled until 31st December 2018 and will have double the impact on our work with the most hard-hit communities.

The Offering from the Carol Service will go to this appeal and Gift Envelopes will be available at the back of Church from the beginning of December.
