Sermon Topic –  The Journey of Good News: Mark 1v1-8

Last week our sermon series on Mark’s Gospel began by emphasizing that the good news is a divine intervention in our troubled world. Mark’s Gospel, closely associated with Peter during a tumultuous time in Roman history, is unique and ongoing.

The sermon highlights how Mark’s Gospel calls us to hope and suggests that the gospel story is still unfolding. John the Baptist’s role symbolises a fresh start and repentance.

There are two misconceptions about the gospel: moralism and license. True repentance lies in humility, acknowledging our shortcomings, and seeking renewal.

We are invited to explore this unfolding good news, especially the importance of humility and the willingness to start anew, with Jesus as the source of hope and transformation.
